Guys,
I need to replace my fuel filter. Question is: Do i HAVE to purge the Schrader Valve underneath the hood??? I kinda wanted to steer clear from this. What happens if i dont? Will i leave air pockets in the lines when i go to take off my original fuel filter? Anything else i should do?
TIA <img src="images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

I just changed mine the other day. I went to www.installuniversity.com and followed their guide. I went under the hood to purge the fuel rail valve but nothing came out. The purpose of this is to releive the pressure on the system. Otherwise when you take the filter off it will spray fuel everywhere. That is almost never good. Except when your Top Fuel and it is pouring out your exhaust.
hope that helps

If you let the car sit for awhile the pressure should bleed down anyways. Either way its not a lot of fuel coming out the the schrader valve compared to the crap that spills out of the fuel lines when you pull the filter we're taking spill pan amounts about a cup, which is actually quite a bit when you consider its a gas. I'd recommend working fast and holding your breath each time you slide under, or just getting an organic fume mask.
You can minimize the spillage if you try not to bend the lines downward or bend the slighlty upwards to hold in whatever excess doesn't get forced out.
Don't worry about air.

What about opening the gas cap? Will that releive the pressure? Well anyways that is what I did and it did not spray anywhere.
