you wont see much of a gain by only porting the primaries. If you port the primaries AND cut off the ball connector and weld better flowing flange then you might see around 5 rwhp or so more than a stock set of MAC's.

Even then you dont get the midrange torque you would from getting longtubes <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

on a BONE STOCK motor, how much of a difference will you notice between say the SLP LTs and the MACs?

Let me tell you something about the SLP LTs. My friend Al (RPM Z28 on this board) put SLP LTs on his 2000 Z28 M6. The car went from a best of 13.46 @105.1 to 12.90 @110.72 with the only change being the LTs. His 60 foots were the same too! Just a little better weather (that probably accounted for a tenth or two and a mph or two) and the SLPs (off-road). His car has a stock motor and only minor bolt-ons.

BUT, I’m still going to get MACs instead. Why? His headers offer almost no ground clearance on the passenger side and they bang something under the car (haven’t figured where yet). You don’t usually hear about banging issues with MACs, and ground clearance isn’t really an issue either. But the LTs sure do offer a gain.
