Heads are installed but a problem?
I helped putting the S2 heads on my car. We started it up and it ran fine, no noise from the valvetrain. It wouldn't take water and we had to keep taking it to red line, then let it cool a little, pour more coolant in, then over again. Finally, I turned on the heater and it was very hot and it started taking water. But, now there is a loud clicking noise. I left it there at the shop till tomorrow. The mechanic said that once it cools down the lifter would fall back into place??? Did something happen by it being too hot? I just laid out a lot of money on this and now I'm worried. Someone please tell me it's not screwed up.
Thanks,

I've seen messed up headgaskets from people that didnt refill/bleed the coolant system correctly, hard to tell if that happened in your case.
Did you unplug the topmost hose that goes to your front coolant crossover pipe when filling? Thats where the air escapes...keep filling till coolant comes out there, then turn the car on and let it reach operating temp and refill if needed.

Re: Heads are installed but a problem?
JMX, I used your instruction sheet for the install of the heads. Thanks.
The car finally got hot enough that it was taking coolant. I guess I'll know in the morning if anything is screwed up. I've never heard that loud ticking before. If it doesn't go away, what could be the problem?

Re: Heads are installed but a problem?
Awesome, glad my instructions could help.
It shouldnt take long for the car to start taking coolant, and as SOON as the fluid in the radiator starts going down fill it back up. Usually takes 3-4 minutes before it goes on mine, and then takes 2 minutes of filling up while idling to keep it going.
Dunno what that ticking noise could be, but aftermarket heads/springs/cam usually make more noise than stock stuff. Also check your oil pressure as low oil pressure could cause ticking.
