Default A question regarding cam and emissions

I have a 98 z28. About 2 months ago, I put Mac headers on with y-pipe w/ cats. I did this because Im planning on getting the hot cam and figured headers were a must. We'll, a while ago my SES light came on, I had it read and it was due to "low efficiency cats". I bought some O2 simms to replace the sensors so I could get the light off. So apparently, I know my exhaust isn't as clean as it should be, but I still have cats on there so Im hoping it will pass inspection. But my real question is regarding when I get my hotcam. I know the HC is supposed to be "emissions friendly"...but im sure it pushes it to the limit. But im wondering If I get the cam and Im already throwing codes due to the exhaust, will I have a hard time passing the sniffer test? I know the only real way to know is to terst it after I do it, but I thought some of you guys that know alot more than me could give me an idea. I don't want to spend $1500 for the entire cam job and not be able to pass. Thanks!

Getting a low efficiency cat code can also mean that the cat is damaged/bad/etc. I’d say check the cat and make sure it doesn’t have anything melted or rattling inside.

Yeah, thats a good idea. But when they read it, it said that both passanger and driver side cats were low effecient..so either they're both broke or just not filtering good enough. My car is lowered so i've scraped the driver side cat before but nothing serious...so i dunno, But i didn't think of that and i'll make sure to check it when I get my car back (its in the shop now...i think the fuel pump is goin out <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> ) but i'll look it...thanks!

Assuming there is nothing wrong with your cats, the hotcam will easily pass the sniffer, i've had no problems with mine whatsoever, just make sure there is nothing wrong with your cats and you'll be fine.
