Default Oil Pump on a 2001?

Hi everybody this is my first post over here at ls1tech.com. I was wondering if it is worth replacing the oil pump on a 2001 z28 when doing a cam install, I am about to do the install and just want to get everything before I start. I have read some posts that say the 2001's are good oil pumps and then some others that say they have replaced the oil pump. Anybody have and insight on this, should I just keep my original oil pump and save some money and install time? Also my car has about 7k on it right now.

If you've got an extra 150 bucks lying around, then definately go for it. ARE makes a sweet unit, and the cheapest insurance you can have considering what an oil pump failure can cost you. I recommend installing a better pump in every LS1 I do heads/cam on, just for the peace of mind and VERY cheap insurance.

The 2001/LS6 pumps are better than previous years, but STILL have been known to fail in stock motors. Think about it
