I have 56k miles and went through a bottle of nitrous at 75 shot. The plugs looked like they were still in good shape which surprised me since I ran nitrous with them. I only ran the nitrous in short spurts on the freeway so that is probably why the spark plugs were ok.

I did the driver side in about 20 mins, plug 2 & 4 in about 20mins, and plugs 6 & 8 took like 3 hours!! I couldn't get to the last bolt on the coil pack rail on the passenger side so I was not able to move it out of the way. I am definately going to work on getting that bolt out of there for next time I need to change my plugs!

 

I ran into the same issue with # 6 & 8. I found the best way was to just remove the EGR but not the fuel rail or coil packs.

I used a deep swivel on # 6 and I went underneath the car for # 8. I know under the car sounds strange but just try it, it is alot easier than taking apart the entire upperhalf of the motor.

You can easily get to them from underneath the car. That is what I do especially for #8

 

I got that last bolt out with a small open end wrench in about 5 minutes. Just be patient, get the wrench on the bolt of the coil pack and every turn will be very short, but also on turn closer to coming out. What I did, and my advice is to not try to put that bolt back in. CHUNK IT! <img src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" border="0" alt="[guns]" /> That little thing pissed me off. Oh and the other bolts on the coil pack will hold it up just find. From here on you should be changing your plugs within an hour. Also I heard that running you car fairly hard (as most of us do) we should be changing our plugs every 10K miles. Better safe than sorry. Just changed them every 3rd or 4th oil change.

Why in the world would you change plugs every 10K when GM puts plugs in that last 100K!! Now 100K is way too long but I think 10K is overkill!! Just my opinion!!

 

not if you run nitrous, i'd changed mine every 3000 miles, eventually I can do both side in 1 1/2 hour <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> the first time it took me more than 16 hours fighting with plug #8 LOL

GM doesn't put plugs in that last 100,000 miles. Oh yeah, they call them 100K plugs but the platinum pucks usually start falling off the side electrode within the first 5,000 miles. Besides, you wouldn't run those plugs with nitrous anyway.

10,000 miles or whenever they appear worn (which is often much sooner for those running nitrous) sounds just right for copper plugs to me.

For that back bolt on the coil pack I use my trusty Gear Wrench. The gear wrench is Gods gift to mechanics. It only takes me about 30 seconds to remove that bolt the first time, then I never put it back. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
