Default LS1 water jackets - am I missing something here???

I am installing a set of heads... when looking at my block before I put the heads on I can see the water jackets around each cylinder. When I look at the head I can see what looks like little water jackets that go through the head... but the head gasket has no openings to let the coolant run from the block to the heads... am I missing something here?

I know this is a stupid question but I just can't figure it out. Maybe I have the wrong gasket?

Thanks, -Dave

Depends on which gaskets you have. I've seen some that require drilling the holes if you want them, but all the LS1 gaskets I've ever purchaed have had the holes in them.

make sure you have them on correctly with "front" facing up

Well I used the 6.0L gaskets because I have 6.0L heads. The gaskets go on over my heads studs just fine, and the part labeled FRONT is facing up and going towards the front of the engine. There are a couple of in the gasket where the water jackets are but they are about the size of a pencil eraser… maybe even a little smaller.

yeah, i was confused by that too, then i looked at the old gaskets i took off and they have just the little dot for the coolant to flow through also. i guess it is sufficent... i wonder if anyone has ever tried to "port" their head gaskets lol

Mine also had little holes throught them. I left it like that and have not had an issue yet. It should be right.
