Stupid Headers Questions...LOUDNESS
Hope this helps.
I have been looking at replacing the "resonator" in order to make it a bit deeper even if it gets quieter (If that makes any sense). I think as long as you dont rev the heck outof your engine when there are cops around and you cruise the streets and not get pulled over. Oh and yes you'll be able to have a conversation, though you might not want to in order to hear your awsome exhaust tone.

Fritz, Hooker LT's, no cats, and Hooker catback = welcome to the world of loud.
Running without cats will make it a ton louder.
I am running TTS LT's, 3" custom ORP, and 4" mufflex with Flowmaster and it's loud. I have heard my car open headers (unbearable) and with no muffler (old school race car sound).
If you run cats it will not be much louder.
SLP dual/dual is superquiet, I should get one again.

my SLP shorties did, so did my Hooker LT, all on LT1
above with no cats is awful but with LT's the collectors talk to ya.
factory SS with Factory exhaust, 2OTL was LOUDER and deeper than my hot cammed LT1 with SLP dual cat shorties and 2OTL.
In short, headers don't make it louder, really. Plan for a higher pitch, that's been my experience with shorties and tubes.
headers tend to change the pitch more than volume. higher pitched usually.

I have NEVER, EVER known headers to give a car a higher-pitched sound. I put headers on my old 3.8 Liter Camaro and they made the Borla cat-back sound A LOT deeper. To me personally, headers give the car a much cleaner and deeper sound, and not the other way around.
