Torque Management Question??
I just got my wife a 98 Z28 and we test drove a 99 T/A and they seemed to be faster then my 02 Z28. Do these 98/99 years not have the torque management in the pcm? They both can/could churp the 1st to 2nd shifts pretty often. Mine just pretty much boggs when I do a high rpm 1st to 2nd shift. Maybe the 02's has a more intense torque management system? Anyway I could stop the computer from taking out the timing or whatever it does to manage the torque? Thanks for any info.

Re: Torque Management Question??
There's no doubt that tq. mgt. is worse on the '01's and '02's than the previous years. My '98 T/A never had the awful tq. mgt. like my '02 does. My SS would fall on its face with tq. mgt., and it was really bad even at part-throttle driving. You can have tq. mgt. deleted with custom tuning. I had Ed Wright tune my PCM for a few different things, and one of them was to delete tq. mgt. My car now charges hard through the shifts w/ no hesitation. It'll definitely net a drop in ET, but it'll take $450 custom tuning to take advantage of it.

Re: Torque Management Question??
Torque management is the pcm pulling timing during shifts with the A4. It's there to some degree with all but seems to be worse in the '01 and '02 years.

Re: Torque Management Question??
Orange Krush - Don't let tq. mgt. determine which converter to go with. A certain converter isn't going to make it worse than others. It's there no matter what.
As for the shift kit, if anything is going to make tq. mgt. worse it will be this. I had a shift kit in my '98 T/A when it was stock, and it didn't make the tq. mgt. worse. I would go ahead with the shift kit install. You can always have tq. mgt. programmed out with custom tuning later on if you really want to. Just be sure that the COMPLETE TransGo shift kit is installed. Some shops are only installing part of the shift kit instead of all of it, and that will lead to problems. So be sure you can trust the installer.
