I'm still debating on the oil pump. You said it yourself, might as well replace it while it's off. Does it really need replaced? My car only has 64k on it.

Do i still need the oil pump oring if i'm not replacing the pump? I'm only porting it.

I reused my o-ring. I suppose replacing the oil pump is suggested but not mandatory.

They flow much more oil to important parts than the stocker...period

I would if I were you, and you can afford it. I would add them to my project if it had more miles on it. Ive seen plenty of people respond on a thread asking about this and lots said stock lifters, LSK and XER lobes.

the problem is, can you afford the risk of not replacing them them now, while there out? right now its $200 and your done. 2 mo's from now, if they come apart, its all the work, and HOPE LIKE HELL they didnt take out the short block/oil pump when they let go.

Well the reason for the longer bolt is to help install the pulley. You can either

A) Buy an OEM Bolt, and get a pulley install tool. (One of the forum members sell it and is a "Proper" way to PUSH a pulley on CLICK HERE )

B)Buy the ARP Pulley bolt, as it is longer to assist in pulling the pulley onto the crank snout.

I should note that pulling a pulley on places more stress on the threads and could end up stripping.

Anyone ever throw the pulley in the oven for a few minutes and then try to slide it on?

Why does everyone buy a new oil pump?
Is it just because they can? My oil pressure is fine.

thanks for the help guys.
2000s and older had pumps that were prone to failure - I would go with a stock pump (they're fairly cheap) and if necessary do a little of your own porting.

If you are not getting melling lifters or one of the top brands, then go with comp OEM lifetrs or the new GMPP lifters.

Make sure you have black RTV sealer for the timing cover and the rocker bolts.

Take the time while waiting for your heads to find threaded rod and nuts and washers to put the pulley on, do not use the bolt to pull it on. You will also need a good strong 1/2" breaker bar and 24mm socket for the pulley along with a section of pipe to put over the end to get the pulley bolt off and on. You cannot re-use the old bolt.

I'm planning on shifting at 7k at the track for max performance. Is there anything else that's needed when revving this high? I'm definitely getting lifters, what about rocker arms?

I'm also going to be doing a heads/cam swap very soon. I didn't notice larger fuel injectors on the list (maybe I missed it though) and you may budget some money for tuning too.

good catch. most cam only setups can get away with the stock inj.s, but not usually head/cam combo's.

well, prolly 30lb SVO inj.s(the SVO's are rated @like 40psi, ls1's operate at a higher pressure so in ls1 terms there basically 36lb injectors) like I got would be fine. but if I were you Id keep my eye open for anything from 30-42lb'ers. if you think you'll ever throw on a dry nitrous kit, maybe go for something a little bigger. but I doubt you'd really need more then the SVO's.

I got mine in the LS1 from a friend for $100, and I got the set in my LT1 for $125 on the CZ28 forsale forum. both sets were supposedly low mile.

what about the racetronix delphi/lucas 42#, on ThunderRacing. There a little cheaper than the SVO's. Except I read a post about them being hard to tune. But It did'nt say they were the racetronix ones.
