Essentially both Vette and Camaro pack the same LS1 motor except for some minor differences which give the Vette the added edge. The Vette has a true dual exhaust but the Camaro doesn't. So why is it when the Camaro is changed to a true dual, power(be it low end)is lost? I have been debating this conversion for some time because eventually I intend to install a H/C kit in the near future. So far I've got the MAC 3/4 length headers so I thought I'd seek additional input before I finally install the y-pipe. Spin Tech puts out some low profile mufflers that look impressive to me and it seems like one could actually get them to fit correctly under the car. LT's sound great but there seem to be more negative issues than positive(particularly clearance). Someone has even suggested the Camaro needs the backpressure. I can't understand how. Any input is appreciated.

Ditto ... I can't understand why every other V8 in the world runs duals and when you mention doing it on the Camaro, everyone sez not worth it.
When I did research on LS1, it seems like everyone who did it claimed gains. I've got my own ideas on how to do it and keep it smog and street legal <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

C5's may keep their low end power for two reasons. First is that they have a different camshaft. Second is the muffler design. Exhaust enters one side and has to turn 180 degrees to exit, this may create additional back pressure.
My second theory is probably incorrect. I replaced my stock exhaust with straight pipes and saw no improvement at the track.

My friend had a Borla exhaust (catback). He changed to a DUAL 3" mandrel bent system (from the headers back), no cats, and went from running 106mph (wide open Borla), to running 109 mph consistently (I went 110mph on a 12.78 run). This is with NO OTHER changes. Still has even the stock manifolds.
BTW, this was on a fully load 2001 Z28 M6 (even with ground effects).
