Runs very rough -- What's wrong?

Runs very rough -- What's wrong? My car occasionally runs very rough right after starting it up. The first time it happened, the car was still bone stock, (no !FRA or after market lid).
Here are the symptoms: Every time it's happened, I had been driving it and parked it for about 20 minutes. Then when I started it up, it ran very rough, and had little power. Today when it happened, I decided to try moving it forward at very low speed to see what happened. It limped along for a few feet, then VERY SUDDENLY, everything was okay. In a split second, it gained power and was running smoothly.
Any ideas what could be causing that?
