Default SLP 382 stroker cam

February High Performance Pontiac has a write up on SLP's LS1 382 stroker they will build for you. Stage 1 type heads, motor balanced & blueprinted. Cam is .576/.571 intake/exhaust with duration 234/228 intake/exhaust 114 lsa. They say idle quality is barely discernible from stock. Dynos 427 hp and about 410 torque. Of course it has SLP headers, 85 mm MAF and their lid.

I assume that the dyno #'s are on a chassis dyno?
In the same mag, did you see the guy with the NBM T/A that says he's spent hundreds of thousands of dollars getting to a 382? I think a shop is making a LOT of money.

Have you seen what SLP charges for a 382?? IIRC its around 15 grand for just the shortblock. Of course you're also buying the name/bragging rights which is worth a lot to some people. You could get more performance for the money from one of our other sponsers, but you aren't going to have the name recognition with Joe Public. If they can sell shortblocks for 15k, more power to them, its a free country

Might want to check the SLP website, if you provide the engine core, it's $10,500 for a 382 stroker and this includes PCM work. That seems like a pretty fair price because MORE Performance wants like $13,500 or so:

This is what I found on SLP's website about the 382 Stroker.

Engine Assembly, 1999-02 LS-1 382/500 hp

"There is no substitute for cubic inches except cubic money" racers have always known that to be true----until NOW! Here's a way to get the benefits of cubic inches at a competitive price! A 382 CID stroker motor. Get 500 horsepower and 490 ft/lbs of torque from your LS-1 or LS-6 engine on premium pump gas!
SLP disassembles and inspects every part of your engine. All machine work is performed including: match honing the bores to pistons and line honing the block main and cam journals. The stroker crankshaft and rotating assembly is balanced and the entire package is blueprinted and carefully assembled with new gaskets, bearings, bolts, rings and lifters. Also included is a custom ported SLP head and cam package designed for your engine. The cam is degreed and a custom PCM calibration configured for the vehicle.

The engine package also includes:
Forged 4032 aluminum pistons
Super light Pro Billet 4340 steel rods
Forged 4340 steel crank
New timing gear/chain set
SLP 160 degree thermostat

and much much more!

This is our maximum horsepower package, with 11.4 compression ratio and a 6900 RPM redline. This engine is sold for OFF ROAD USE ONLY!

Retail price of engine is $10,500 and does not include installation. Installation quoted separately depending on accessories and options desired. Basic installation starts at $2799.00

Call one of our Technical Sales Representatives for more details on having an SLP 382 CID stroker built for your car.

Hmm, well I guess I look like a fool now. Oh well, thats what happens when you dont remember correctly and dont check the webpage.

Isn't SLP based in Canada? Maybe I was thinking about Canadian dollars or something.
