I'm trying to figure out why LS1's carry 10-15 psi less of oil pressure w/ the factory break-in oil. My SS carried right around 30 psi at idle and full temp with the factory oil, but it's never been lower than 40 psi at idle and full temp ever since I changed it. I've used 10w-30 since 500 miles, and I used Castrol GTX from 500 miles to 5,000 miles.
I picked up my dad's SS this past Saturday, and it will hold 25 psi of oil pressure at idle and full operating temp. It's more than full with oil. The factory seems to dump in at least 6 qts. w/ the small oil filter. Does anyone know what weight of oil the factory uses?

5W-30 is what they have from the factory.

Mine was the same way Trevor. Soon as I changed it the oil pressure went up. The oil that came out of the crankcase looked nasty too.
Also, the bastard that put the filter on at the factory must have one hell of a grip.

I think its 5w-30.Ive never felt good about my oil pressure. My car reads 37-39 warm temp guage at 210 but if the car is very hot like idleing extended periods of time in stop and go it will go down to 30psi.I run castrol GTX 10w-30 it seems to run at most a few psi higher than the factory oil when the oil was fresh but now its not much different.
The combination of low oil pressure and the knock these engines have makes me want to .car feels like it would give my old M6 a good run for the money though.
