Default H/C Combos?

Hey guys, I got an 01 SS.. I came from driving a honda to this car so I'm not really familiar with the H/C package combos, could someone give me a really good highway combo, if so I'd appreciate it.

Man, there's no answer to that. You'll just have to read to see how combos are performing. Even better, do what I did: find people in your area with a h/c car, and see how it runs.

Well, there could be an answer, it depends on what you mean by highway combo. Are you looking for something that performs in the high RPM range only? Are you looking for good power with decent MPG? What are you wanting...

Good highway combo;

I'll take a stab at one (of many) possible combinations;

AFR 205 heads milled for high compression (and high velocity with the 205cc intakes), and a Thunder Racing 224/224 camshaft. It could make potentially 430 rwhp, and get better gas milage than stock with a good tune.

TFS heads from TEA milled .030
Harland Sharp Rockers
Fast 90 port matched to the TFS heads
Nick Williams TB
Custom TFS cam from ECS

Wait...that's my combo! Should net 450+ rwhp with a proper tune on a six speed.

Also, don't forget the 'best" combo out there... the one you already have. In terms of highway reliability, it's hard to argue with the stock setup. The more you start to modify it and the further you get from stock the more reliability will decrease.

with an auto, you're going to need a high stall for highway punches.

here's a nice highway car:

maybe you should try bolt ons first?? going with heads and cam coming from a honda might not be the best idea... (no offense or anything...)

well, like the others said, go check out some cammed cars to see what youre actually dealing with.

230 or 232 seems to be the about the average cam out there. Then youve got the big stuff in the 244 range, and the baby stuff in the 210 range. Plenty of stuff in between them all. Different LSA's and advance affect your powerband one way or another. Your options are limitless.

As for heads, you have a ton of options here too. Plenty of budget stock valves LS6 (#243) heads out there for about a grand. Plenty of mid range, stage 2 or 2.5 heads for 1500 - 1750. Then youve got the big ticket item heads that go for 2200 - 2600 or more. The budget heads are a great bang for the buck, flow well, and bump up compression. Its almost hard to justify each jump to the more expensive ones, as the dollar per horsepower curve turns skyward.
