Project true dual complete :)
Well I decided yesterday morning that I wanted to make a true dual setup for the car
I always liked how the AC Cobras had the side exit exhaust so I decided to mimic that approach.
I went to an automotive store and bought 2 pieces of 2.5 inch tubing with turnouts on the end and two muffler clamps. (25 dollars)
Then I took off my Ypipe in the driveway and used a hacksaw to cut off the Y portion of the pipe right after my 2.5 inch bullets.
Slid the 2.5 inch piece over the cut ends and mounted them underneath the car. Lined everything up and clamped it.
It sounds freaking awesome. Like an 427 AC cobra. I haven't gotten on it yet but I did drive around the block to test fitment, banging etc and everything was great. It is loud on the sides of the car but pretty quiet inside the car. This setup saved about 50-55 pounds over my stock exhaust setup and sounds way better. I should also see about 6 RWHP on the dyno compared to my single 3 inch system. It looks badass too with the side exit tips on the black car. I would recommend this mod to anyone, it only took me an hour in my driveway and 25 bucks LOL! (I did have the bullets welded into my offroad Ypipe previously though. I am going to do the same mods with my cat Ypipe as well. I think I am going to stop at a muffler shop today and get the final welding done to make sure everything stay secure but that should only cost around 15-20 bucks as well
Cheers,
Chris

haha nope
When I decide to do something I usually do it right away
Ground clearance is fine with the 2.5 inch tubing. The bullet mufflers tuck nicely underneath the car where the cats used to be and the 2.5 inch tubing only lost me a little bit of ground clearance. The sound alone is worth it to me. I wouldnt care if I didnt gain anything at the track or the dyno. The car sounds like a beast now. I love it. hahaha! Plus the 50 pound weight savings is nice too!

hey chris i am really looking into doing this. how loud is it compared to open headers? does it vibrate like open headers. that is something i could not stand! also when you find out, tell us how crusin around the 'hood and how bad the exhaust smeels come into the cabin of the car. i am not real happy with the sound of my y-pipe (off road) intermediate pipe cutout sound. thanks.
It is fairly loud outside the car when standing on the side of the car but there is no vibration and it is fairly quiet in the car. MUCH MUCH quieter than when I had the exhaust dumping underneath.

Chris

I have always wanted to do this!!!! I live right next to classic design concepts (the do mustang side exhaust), and they told me that it was not possible. PLEASE keep us updated, because i'm about to go to an autoparts stoe and pick up that stuff to do it. Do the tips line up right in front of the rear tire? Thanks a lot

Killer! Which headers do you have?? I wonder if when I get the Hooker LTs, if I could squeeze a pair of 3" 40 Series Flomasters under there with 3" pipe (or transition to oval pipe) exiting in front of the rear tires!!!
