Default Looking for cam!!!

I am looking for the best cam/lifter package for a 2001 LS1 with about 15K on the engine. Good street ability and to be used with stock valve springs and heads. And requires no computer mods. How hard and how long did it take with engine in car to install. I want a noticeable HP gain.

I hate to tell you this, but NO cam that would be small enough to use stock valve springs is going to give you a noticeable gain. You need better springs even for an LS6 cam, and that’s a pretty small one.

Don’t waste your time with stock springs. They are crap and should be ditched asap (right along with the pushrods if you’re doing a cam).

You’re really limiting yourself with some of these requirements here. A noticeable gain with great drivability, no tuning, and stock valve train basically does not exist.

do you have an A4 or M6? Driveability is your main concern. For example, i have an A4 with hotcam, converter, and no PCM tuning and the car runs fine with mild surging on cold start ups. If you don't want to deal with this I would either suggest not getting a cam at all or getting an LS6 cam. Even with the LS6 cam, you may get some idle problems. it all depends on what kind of driveability issues you can handle.

The stock lifters are pretty good. Plus, changing out the lifters is no easy task. You would be better off getting the springs and pushrods.

Stock lifters are just fine.
Stock valvesprings are BIG pieces of ****.
Stock rockers are fine.
Stock pushrods are okay with better valvesprings.

Now, tell us if you have an A4 or M6 and we can help you pick out some cam specs.

If I had more info I would try to help you...

BTW, the self imposed restrictions you have imposed on your cam choices pretty much negates your hope of acheiving the one goal that you stated; "I want a noticeable HP gain."

If you change the springs to an aftermarket set up... a plethora of different cam choices would be available to you.

P.S., My web site has a LOT of camshaft info on it.
