Default Cleaning threads question

What do ya'll use to clean the threads in the block. I know there is one tool for like $50. I was hoping that there was some cheaper ones out there.

Cut a V groove in an old bolt with a grinder, use paper towels wrapped around a narrow rod, compressed air, etc. to get the coolant out then slowly run the bolt down, remove and clean each time, until you can run it all the way down easily by hand.

Good idea, thanks! I just got the block back from the machine shop, when they cleaned the block, no fluids should be in the bolt holes, right?

Shouldn't be but if there is it will run out when you rotate the engine on the engine stand.

I use a shop vac and a drinking straw to empty the coolant out of the blind bolt holes. I also use the grooved used bolt. Or pick up a tap for m11 threads.

if you do the grooved used bolt method, make sure and debur the vnotch so as not to destroy the threads in teh block.

and if you want to buy the real tool, just make sure its a long thread CHASER and not a tap. taps will cut new threads, through the old ones if your not very careful, a chaser will not damage the threads that are already there, and will "find" the thread/reshape them at the same time as cleaning them out. I can only assume they make a long enough chaser for that length hole.
