Default 2001 less timing question

Question, maybe ARE or other dyno oriented Ls1 specialists can answer: I've read how 2001 ls1 has reduced WOT timing total figures, I know the cooling system has changed to a 2 point steam vent system from a 4 point. Could these features be related and are there detonation related problems on modified new styles? I know GM went to a 18 psi rad. cap also. I appreciate any info from anyones experiences with this.

I dont know if this information is correct, but ive been told that the reason the timing is less is due to the cam (we have the truck cam in the 2001), and it doesnt show any appreciable gains by increasing timing past 25 degrees or so.
