Default Another cam question for the gurus

I am looking at a cam with these specs:
.581 intake /.572 exhaust lift 224 intake / 230 exhaust duration on 114 LSA

wantin to put in A4, and will have custom PCM work done,

long tube headers and NO head work with Yank 3000 or 3200 or so

how ya think it will work?????

thanks

Greetings Mr Tony. I knew you would find the cam gurus here

I like the aggressive lift on that cam, but you better make sure piston/valve clearance is okay with that much. Good valvesprings are a must as well, and that increased lift will fatigue them sooner than anything.

No need for that much split in the duration, especially since you are going to have headers on the car. When we did tons of dyno testing to develop the T1/B1 cams, we found that extending the exhaust duration past 221 netted no gains on a car with headers and only made the idle worse and the computer set more SES lights. 224 intake duration is about the biggest I'd go with a 346ci LS1 motor.

Just my $0.02

Tony

With the heads milled 30 thou, there is plenty of P:V clearance, so much, that on a 3-2 mis-shift, it didnt bend valves...*cringes*. The new 918s will work fine, along with some 4130 pushrods.

[quote] No need for that much split in the duration, especially since you are going to have headers on the car. When we did tons of dyno testing to develop the T1/B1 cams, we found that extending the exhaust duration past 221 netted no gains on a car with headers

On the contrary! the LSx cars LIKE like a split pattern cam. The single pattern cam works great, but if you have 2 differnt ports, why would you not taylor the cam lobe to that port??(i.e. intake is not the same as the exhaust) on all of our testing, a split pattern cam made more power and torque. The lope is not to harsh, and my PCM has never, NEVER been out of the car and it responded fine.

Tony, I will not be at the office until about 4:00 on monday. I know that you scheduled to talk with my dad on mon. but If you would like to hear my car, 4:00 would be best. Drop me a line, and mabe we can work somthing out so that you can hear it if mon. does not work out. PLUS, if you dont like it, pick a cam, hammer, T1, B1, and we said that we would do the swap cheap!!
