Thanks Tony,

What's your thoughts about a 427ci 4.080 x 4.080 as opposed to the 422? Shouldn't this configuration rev pretty fast?

Sir Sel, I like any motor that is square or oversquare. "Square" means same bore/stroke, and oversquare means more bore than stroke. These setups tend to rev quicker and make more area under the HP curve from what I've seen.

Performance-wise, you will probably see hardly any difference between a well-built 418-427ci motor.

PS, the motor might already be sold Had a few inquiries already, waiting on a reply from a Dallas gentleman with a C5.

Tony think about having a engine that pulls like yours and then add the nitrous. I got one and it didn't cost $6000.

"Always the moving target."

Got my sites a little higher than that.

I'm glad you didn't pay $6K Joe, but being buddies with Judson at SAM I know you got a hell of a deal. I talked with Judson about your motor at BG. You also are running an iron block and are adding 100 lbs to the front of the car, I'd rather have the aluminum block myself. Yep, you guessed it, not as cheap. You also have a solid roller cam setup which hasn't really proven itself on your motor. Wasn't Judson running 10.5s with a solid roller 375ci motor? Or was it faster? I can't remember.

/Leghumper mode ON

And, you are such an awesome driver Joe, I have to wonder how your car would run with a normal driver behind the wheel, maybe low 12s?

/Leghumper mode OFF

LOL!

I heard that! If I had $6K lying around, Tony's motor would be MINE ALL MINE, NOT YOURS, SEAN!!!!

Sounds good Tony! At least when you get rid of this motor, you will be upgrading. When I got rid of my motor, I lost 100hp. LOL Congrats on the new bad *** setup!

Hey BHB, there are worse things than being a college student with a badass NBM Formula to roll in. I had an '85 Nissan Pulsar when I was in college, and it was 1992 already!

Hang in there. I was there only 2 years ago, and was driving a 1990 Ford Escort with no A/C, probably 19-sec quater capabilities, and a tendency to break down like nothing you have ever seen.

Things can change fast in life.

Don't take this wrong - I have no idea what he is capable of, but I think most people are going to want to see actual results instead of just hearing what people can do. I don't mean a pro stock car that runs xxx, I mean a normal daily driver that runs yyyy.

Of course there are other people who can build a good motor, and I am sure that there are people who can build them faster than MTI, and in turn people who can build them faster than those people. But the things to remember is for every person who can do it there a 100 who claim they can. I would just not to lightly write off proven performance.

Talk is cheap, and MTI doesn't build all-out racing motors. 99% of their motors go in daily-drivable cars and run on pump gas. I'm sure MTI could build me a 346ci motor that makes as much power as my 382ci motor, but I sure as hell would not want it in a car that sees street duty.

Its not that any of the good LS1 shops out there can't built more powerful setups, its the fact that their customers are not looking for all-out Pro Stock drag racing motors.

Come on Tony JUST DO IT. Why not let us put in a 422 big nasty solid cam 250 shot and point the nose of the bird at the sky. Hell if a m6 vette with a weak rear end can go 9.70's lets see what a car that is set up to drag race can do.
With that set up you might want to wear diaper the first time out lol

This is just more reason for why small engines suck. Build the 422 and have even more drivability than that little mini mee 382. There are two kinds of car enthusiasts. There are those that have big engines and there are those that want them.

Doesnt seem like we can afford the bottom end even after college either ;-)

And Tony's right... I was driving a MR2 with mad piston slap in '90, while at the Univ. Alaska FAIRBANKS...... You got it good ;-)

Why don't you have Brian Ebert build you a 409. He said his 409 will put out more power than MTI's 422, and have a stronger lower end. Or you could go all out an get the 7 liter race block and GTZ heads that and have 700 hp N/A on pump gas.

that's a little harsh, isn't it? after all, a 422 is only 10% bigger than a 382...

Of course just joking. I do think the all-bore 382 is certainly a GREAT hp per dollar performer but the pricier 422 would be a little nicer and a little faster untimately for the street.

Okay Erik, answer this tough one for me. Would you go with a solid-roller 382ci motor, or would you go with a 422ci hydraulic cammed motor? Remember, this isn't my daily-driver anymore, but I would like it to be highly streetable. No trailer queen setups please

I'm about to go offshore next week, maybe I can ride that clock enough to afford the crank too haha.
