Default Ati or BigBore??

Ok right now I have t1 cam, flp headers, Ls6 manifold,Star Stage III clutch and all the other boltons (380rwhp). I just sold my TnT kit and I have plans to get the Ati procharger with D1sc blower. I know that my cam isn't great for a blower but it will work. i have $5900 saved up and I am regreting (sp?) ever selling my TnT setup.
What do you guys think I should do?
Get the blower or save up for maybe a bigbore motor from ARE. Any suggestions?
I want my car to get in the 10's and I don't car how radical it is. I am a big fan of nitrous but I don't want my motor to blow.
thanks
Jasen

I would look into the all-bore motor if you are looking for reliability. In my opinion, it would be much more reliable than the ATI setup on a stock bottom end motor. 10s shouldn't be much of a problem if you can get a 12-bolt and get to a good track! Good luck!

With the right set-up, the ATI supercharger will blow away a big bore motor. Come on, there are stock heads/cam motors running well over 450 rwhp with the ProCharger and built stock displacement heads/cam motors easily surpassing 550 rwhp. Turn the boost up over 12 lbs and you're in an even higher realm (600-700 rwhp). You'd need a 422 on the spray to hit those numbers.

Granted, a big bore motor is very reliable, but for the cost, you could easily surpass the hp for less money with the ATI ProCharger. Go to an NMCA meet sometime and see how fast the blower guys are going compared to the big bore guys. It will make a believer out of you.

Reliability and stealthiness, go with the all-bore.

But, Patrick is right, your motor with an ATI blower would easily whip an all-bore motor if you have it setup right. You are at 380 rwhp now, and go ahead and add 100-120 rwhp to that figure with the ATI. Now, how long your bottom end will last is another issue.....

I would go all bore for sure.
You will have 450RWHP without having to mess with your fuel system, injectors or programming. You can run pump gas and not have a problem. The blower adds a lot of power (I have owned 3 FI Fourth gens) but everything else needs to be upgraded as well. Also expect your motor to live only about 18 months with 9#'s of boost even with race gas. (That is the average life of the stock pistons I have seen in hundreds of blower cars.) I was lucky and got 2.5 years out of my LT1 with 8psi intercooled but I tuned and ATAP'ed every day. My powerdyne car ran great till I sucked in water and wiped my motor

Cheers,
Chris

Super Sport - as a few people wrote here, it is ultimately a reliability/price/power trade off.

Almost nothing makes power as easily and as quickly as a blower (except for really well-set-up nitrous systems), but the tradeoff is ultimately a blown engine bottom end, your rings, your headgasket . . . it is only a matter of time if the motor is not built for it. You can of course reduce the risk of any of the above if you reduce the boost, but then you lose power. I would definitely want to rebuild my engine to handle the blower - that way you could have a lot of reliable power. But that can cost a lot of dough.

The all-bore I cannot speak about since I have not run one, but I think the other people here have already said good stuff about that. Some very good numbers coming out of those, but not really in high-boost territory.

Stock short block... good luck! I think he said reliable Hope those heads are stock compression (at the most).

Get your self the blower and some thicker head gaskets copper ones that is and run low boost if you turn it up run leaded fuel if you dont have any cats.Trust me it will be worth it and last.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to go with the blower. I really don't have much money which sucks so if I blow the motor I am SOL.
Thanks again

If your a big fan of nitrous, spray it!

ARE makes a stock cube nitrous motor for $3700. From rapidmotorsports web site:

346 CID STOCK BUILD-UP LS1 SHORT BLOCK NEW!!!

Ideal for the Budget Minded Blower or Nitrous Build

Stock Crankshaft - Polished
Stock Connecting Rods - Resized

ARP Rod Bolts
Rotating Assembly Fully Balanced

Lunati Billet Custom Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
GM Timing Chain
Fully Assembled Short Block (Engine Core Required)
Main Studs Add +$500

Since you have a T1 and will spray it hard, you can delete the cam and get the main studs. The cost would probably be $3900 doing that.

Not as fast NA as the allbore, but you can spray into 10s easily.
