Default budget 6.0 with s400

1st time to post on here. have done a lot of searching and seems no one agrees on what needs to be done. we are building this motor for my little brothers 65 chevelle ss. he doesn't have much money so we will only change the necessities.

we bought a 2003 6.0 with 50000 miles one it. it was lightly burnt paid $400.00
our plan is simple cam change port the heads ourselves and a s400 turbo. it will be carbed.. boost in the 7-8lb range for daily driving and about 14-15 at track

this is what i am thinking right now.
would like your guys input on if these mods are needed...

bottom end:
new kaltech rod bolts
ls2 timing chain set up
some sort of ported oil pump (can i port it my self)
cam somewhere in the 230-240 range .580-610 lift on a 112-116 (just looking for something that would work, not the ideal cam just a used cheap one)
do i need a different type of lifter? (ls7,or keep what i got)

top end:
port the 317 heads (any sites on where to port to get best results)
looking a patriot spring kit
new head bolt kit, probably factory
new factory head gaskets, maybe some felpro mls??(which gaskets are the thickest)
Edelbrock performer rpm and the new programmable msd 6ls

newbie at lsx motors but not newbie at other performance motors
last car i had was a 1965 elcamino on stock style susp, 295 bfg drag radial, 406 sbc 23degree top end and 175 shoot of spray..
went 6.30-6.20 all day long in 1/8..

thanks for all the info to come

Cam: Your ideas are a little too big. I'd go for something around 226-228 , single pattern, with a wide LSA. You want to minimize overlap. Stock lifters should be fine provided they check out ok.

Porting: Buy David Vizard's book on How to Modify Small Block Chevrolet Cylinder heads. It may not apply directly to LSX engines, but the knowledge contained within is priceless. Well worth $20

That's about all I have on it, others can chime in.

thanks ls1forumlation,

yea i know the cam would be a little on the large size, my ideal cam would be 230-230 .580-.600 and on a 116. just getting him started in all this motor building stuff.. reason for larger cam is that when he gets more money L92 heads a stroker kit and more boost in future..
thanks for the reply...

where are all the experts..
did i post in wrong forum?

just bought cam
The intake duration @ .050 is 224 & the exhaust @ .050 is 231.

The intake lobe lift is .340 & the exhaust is .346 which gives a 578 intake & 588 exhaust lift

on 114
