Default Plug problem: Autolite 104 has SHORTER electrode(part in cylinder) than stock ones

I decided to chage my plugs while my headers are off the car and I happen to have 4 boxes of Autolite 104s from when I had my blown 383 impala. I have Denso plugs in the car now. They are the stock ones that came in my 00 Z. I compared them to the autolites, which are supposed to be compatable, and the autolites are about 1/8-1/16" SHORTER than the Denso's. WTF??

The thread portion is the same, but the tip and electrode are shorter. **I am not talking about the white porcelan part where the boot goes** I know the 104 is a cooler plug, but that should not change the location of the tip????? Is this how it is for the NGKs?
I was also wondering if I should run the cooler heat range in my setup???
Thanks for the info.

Has anyone used autolite 104s????

Were they the same length as the stockers?

Thanks

I use them on my '94Z. They are about .2" shorter than TR55's. They give me the clearance I need for the #5 primary on my SLP single cat headers.

Yes, they are shorter, so I'm not sure if they'd work well with the LS1 boots, since the boots are significantly longer than the 90 degree boots I'm running on the '94. On my '98, I'm running TR55's (err, the ones that I pulled out of my '94 after a few hundred miles and a burned plug wire ).

The AutoLite 104's are a good nitrous plug, as well as working better for header clearance. They are the same length as the 'harder to get and more expensive' Accel shorty plug.

Camaroholic,
Thanks for the info. I ment that the part that goes into the cylinder head is smaller. I didn't really even check the top part. The threads are the same length, just the tip (where you gap the plug) is shorter.
