Default Will this Cam perform well?

I have just purchased this cam: CompCams Xtreme 228/234 -- .539/.547 -- 112LSA. This will be mated to a stock shortblock (20k miles) ported macs and orp and gtp stage 3 heads that flow extremely well. Figs old heads. How will this cam be w/ stock tuning..m6 car, until ls1 edit comes out for 98's in early february? I am looking to make over 400 rwhp. How does this cam compare power wise to say a t1, c1, thunder 224/224, or something along those lines? Will it make more power or maybe less power? FYI it came out of mastaaces98 402 stroker. thanx

I dont think it will make enough power above an MTI Hammer cam (1-3 hp, peak) to justify the poor idling, lower torque, and drivability. Thats just me though <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

thanx for the reply.....anybody else....be honest guys...I want the cam that makes the most power. I was thinking the TR 224/224 before this one. I'm sure I can sell this one pretty easily.

To be honest.
That is a good NOS cam.
If I were you personally I would not go anything lower than a T1 with those heads so here are my opinions.
T1 / C1 "hammer" / or the TR 224

I would just concur with what everyone else here in this thread has already mentioned.

It's too big for my tastes in a "street car".
WAY too big. But then again. I am all about performance and NOT lope, or sound or dyno numbers.

The cam is big. Too big for everybody? Nah. Too big for me and my goals of 10.5? Heck yes.

Consider something quite a bit smaller.

Here's a 226/226 112 cam through an A4 with a yank 4400. Stock bottom end, GTP 5.3heads. (Chris Marsh/AMS)

Do you really want a cam bigger than that on a stock bottom end? That's about the largest one I would go with unless you are planning a nitrous setup.

I'd put it in if you don't mind peak HP around 6400-6500 rpms.
