Default fuel pressure

Just got my ls1 crate motor installed in my 66 nova. My question is what fuel pressure should I be running. We put a gauge on the rail with engine running and it was 58 psi. We put an intank pump with swirl can and a regulator just outside the tank with a return line going back in the tank.I drove the car for the first time and it seemed like it was lacking power. Since it is a crate motor the check engine light is on the diagnostic port and it did come on after the first drive. I'm wondering if I don't have enough fuel pressure. Any thoughts?

At idle, a stock LS1 will show between 58-61 psi at the fuel rail.

The PCM (98 at least) expects to see fuel pressure at 55-60psi.

Just because you're seeing 58 at idle doesn't mean that you're seeing it at WOT at high RPMS.

If you have a check engine light you've got to find out the code and fix what ever it is. There are several fault codes that will cause the PCM to go into engine protect or as some say "limp in mode".
In limp in mode you have very little timing and fuel enricment response time is very slow. Hence the lack of power.
