These two pictures show holes in both sides of my block, along with the parts of connecting rod that tried to escape from the crankcase...

 

WeatherGuy, I've never felt the need to dyno the car, so I don't know what kind of numbers it would put down on the rollers... I had just gotten into 2nd gear when it let go, 6000rpm or so maybe...

M.R., 6900-7000rpm shiftpoints, 7250rpm limiter...

 

Georgec, how many 7000 rpm runs did that motor have on it? And im curios if you do your burnout at 7000? This would be usefull info.

 

How many runs??? I have no real idea. I only started keeping a logbook last October, but logged over 100 passes since then. I would figure 300 or more passes on that motor, spinning it to 6700-6800rpm or so, and only 10-15 passes with the new cam and slightly higher revs...

I think 300 passes and lots of street driving(I assume) is doing pretty good. I have a low 10 second 406 small block that i wouldnt try to get more runs out of than that, before i went thru it.
YOu really should figure out if rod bearing failure caused rod to break. LS1 rods are much nicer than old "pink rods" that i turned 8200 rpm with for many years. I would like to know source of your failure. Thanks

Whoa - that is a lot of very high rev runs, or you can think of it as 75 miles of full-throttle driving. I feel less bad now that a stock bottom end could take that, especially since you were spinning it to close to 7000 RPM.

 

Ugly, ugly, ugly <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> I read your post details on the link to the other thread and saw that you had a stock bottom end, so I am not surprised by the shattered rod. One detail I would like to know, though, is what kind of power (dyno) did that engine have. Also, how fast was it spinning when it went?

Glad you came out of that in one piece. Fires can be a very scary thing to happen.

 

Wow....not good. Glad your ok. How many RPMs were you turning with the stock internals?

Actually, I'd love that, but... I don't think it's going to be in the budget. Maybe if the insurance company is extremely generous with a settlement for everything, and you still have it... <img src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" border="0">
