They will be out very soon. They are special because being aluminum, they can be extrude honed and ported. Also, you can super cool aluminum with ice at the track which is good for a few ponies.

Drawback? Aluminum holds heat alot more than plastic. It will get very hot during street driving or after back to back passes at the track. So, better bring ice to the track!

Price will be like $400 I think.

I'd still like to see some results from one of the sheetmetal intakes on a big cid or high-revving stockish cid engine...

Hmm, guess I'd need one of those $800 electric water pumps to keep it cool too

The Holley intake is patterned on the OE LS6 intake. Stock from the box, it will flow the same. But it can be ported.

so $700 for a 0-15 hp increqase depending on what year your car is.....why would they not make it larger, and flow more????? Poring a new intake, becuase you get no HP out of the $700 piece of metal (which has heat soak ) is not cool, i have been waiting for info on this, but had heard it would be better than the Z06 intake

Ryan, it is better than the LS6 intake in the fact that it can be ported. That's the whole point. Trust me, there are some of us that have been begging for the opportunity!

Think of it as if we had only unportable heads from the factory. Then, someone came out with heads just like them....except they could be ported. That would be considered a groundbreaking advance to say the least! While this isn't quite that big of a deal, the priciple still applies.

It won't be long after their release that folks will be selling these intakes after porting them. Let's just hope that the price of the intake plus porting is within reason.

Ryan, you can't port an intake properly without port-matching it to the intake ports on your heads. A ported intake with stock intake ports could actually cost you HP. Thats why it comes with the stock port size. Its up to the engine builder to port-match the intake to the heads. This is a VERY COOL part because now the engine builders can experiment with different port sizes, whereas with our stock LS1/LS6 intakes, you can't do much if ANY cutting on them since they are plastic. $700 may sound steep, but the tuning capacity it introduces is priceless.

I emailed ARE to see if they could port match one of these without having my heads. Stage 1's like mine are CNC'd anyway and all of them should be identical. Heck, it may not even be worth doing for my setup. I would think that it would not cost that much, they could do 1, make a tape, and spit out identical port matched intakes all day long.

I guess we wait and see on this one...From the early days on LS1.com, I thought most of you had seen several of our sponsors play with intake variations. I know 2 of the sponsors where playing with them still, well after the LS6 design was released. Everything seemed to point to serious looses in the low rpm to mid range, or making the set up more peaky. I guess that could be a benefit to a "specific function" vehicle for track or drag, but I think this manifold will fail big time for those looking for solid streetable gains.

Love helping my LT1 buddies cart around that ice chest at the track.......

Just my opinion,
Todd

I sure wish I could super chill my intake manifold without the use of a blue bottle!

I'm looking forward to seeing what this manifold will do after extrude honeing, port matching, and with a HUGE throttle body and matching intake inlet.

Who is going to be the guinea pig on seeing exactly how much this thing can get hogged out?
