Default Driving Impressions with Hooker long tubes and Custom OR Y-pipe

For those of you who havent been following the other post, I have the Hooker LT headers, and got a Custom Y made up today, its a slip fit collector 2.5 inch, no cat into a flowmaster Y collector. I also have a Borla exaust.

First of all this thing sounds freakin awesome. I was worried that the Borla wide open would be way too loud but it really isnt that bad. I wont be running WO all the time though because even though its not much louder than stock manifolds at idle and light throttel cruise, if i accelerate at more than civic speeds i fear attracting unwanted law enforcement attention. So I will likely keep it closed (I took it for a ride closed and it still sounds good and it is loud enough when I get on it, but not loud enough have to be careful of cops at mild acceleration) I dont know what is meant exactly by drone but I have had people ask if it does it at 2-2.5K, I personaly dont see any change in the sound other than the fact its louder. I wish i could record the sounds and post them. both open and closed (didnt test drive wtih the other plates yet) sounds like a very angry Drill Instructor at WOT

As far as SOTP goes, well it DEFINELY has more *** in the low RPM torque department. Tires are much quicker to give up the fight for traction. feels better in the midrange too, havent done enough high RPM to tell...

Also, so far no bangin of floorboards, and no scraping of headers, and looking at everything I really dont forsee either being a problem.

Hope to get some pics of the Y if anyone is interested in seeing it.

if ya got any questions ask away

Hey Freak, you know what question I do have, can you get that paint you painted the headers in chrome instead of red???? And what was the name of that paint again and where can I get it???? Sounds like those headers are great though. Hopefully I'll know how they feel this summer when I get them.

Thanks

IT was Duplicolor High Heat with Ceramic, I think they have it in silver, but not chrome. I got it at autozone.... I dont think I let mine sit long enough. the headers are turning black near the ports already. Oh well.

ALL I CAN SAY IS TORQUE. I just got my exhaust put on which consists of a 3 inch y pipe into 3 inch intermediate into a flowmaster delt 40 muffler. After I got everything straightened out I picked up much in the midrange department. Like Freak said, traction is getting harder to come by.

Freak, I can't wait to see dyno numbers. Do you have any dyno numbers before the long tubes?

Freak, With the length of the collector would you have room to install a cat behind it before going into the the y-pipe? On my TTS's i can only run about 10-12" 0f 3" pipe straight back before hitting the drivers side underbody support. If i didn't have already have my TTS's those Hooker's look real good to me. BOB

yep, Im going to the guy that did the dyno before, he has the runs in the computer still, so it will be easy to compare the whoel curve. Ive never been much one for peak numbers only.. somewhere around 315 HP 326 TQ

I measured the space behind them, because i was gonna put bullets on to avoid getting pulled over on the way to the exaust place, and if I remember correctly it would be just enough room for a 16 inch bullet before hitting my SFC's. without them though it might be even more. A cat shouldnt be a problem if you wanted it

Was there any loss in clearance? If so, how much? Is your car lowered? Thanks!

Installation? Was it a PIA? Any other parts to be removed?

yeah I definately need cats on my car. Hopefully mufflex can do a good Y-pipe with the car sound cats. That's what I'm gonna try to do when I get the hookers. <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_tounge.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" /> <img src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" />
