Hooker LT's any straight scoop yet?
If I were in your position, I would wait a little while, untill there are more hooker results, Ill bet they will turn out to be right on par overall with the others.

1. Ok, how is this set of headers going to 49 states emission legal if they are not offered with cats?

2. Hey, wait a minute! Holley don't even know if someones aftermarket cats will fit there soon to be released y-pipe. So, again, how will this set-up ever be "49 state" legal?
Am I missing something here?

There is NO WAY the FLP's will make more power than the Hookers. Or the same the other way. They will be so close no one will see the difference. 3" collectors are the way to go. I would go with the Hookers myself and will because I won't take the chance, that the FLP's are gonna hit something. Steering or whatever. That's just crap.
Freak gave us installed pics of Hookers, ground clearance is every bit as good as FLP, fit is perfect, get a custom y for less than the prefab one, and you have a set of headers that don't bag the floor boards, don't scrape on the speed bumps and perform the best of any mass produced header on the market. How can you do better? Not to mention the best price by far.

I've seen guys throw on SLP's or FLP's and get like 10 hp because they were running too rich or lean or whatever. I don't see anything about the Hookers that would suggest they will make less power than the other longtubes.Just wait till a bunch of people dyno with them and go to the track. Then the truth will come out. In the end I'm sure the other brands will have to lower their prices or sell no more headers. I'm glad they had the ***** to sell these for what the others should have been going for all along.
Don't get me wrong,i like the look of the Hooker's but How do you put cats on the them, they have such long collectors? How would you make the bend to the y-pipe? BOB

Are these things going to have all of the emmision hook-ups or not? I have heard that no one is getting a straight answer. According to this article they will. And the picture even shows it. Anyone heard the straight scoop yet?

I have JetHot coated Hooker LTs on the way. I should be able to install them Jan. 26th weekend and can give everyone another dyno run to make a better conclusion on these headers.

SLPs give outstanding gains at the track (from what I’ve seen), come with a true 3” Y-pipe with a much better Y collector than some “others”, fits properly and won’t bang the floor boards (if installed properly), comes with 3” RT cats, and are the only stainless steel header that I know of for LS1s, plus it comes coated. The install kit includes everything needed (including GM gaskets and fire sleeving). And ground clearance is fine as long as the car isn’t lowered; just take it easy over speed bumps (you should really do this with any LT header anyway). And all this for $1275 from Speed Inc.
Using Jake’s pricing, you’d pay up to $580 for the headers (coated if you wanted that), about $200 for a custom y-pipe, and another $275 (at least) or so for cats (if you wanted them). That’s $1055 plus gaskets. For the extra $220 I’d rather have the SLPs in stainless steel with a good pre-fabbed Y-pipe that bolts right on, and they’re already coated so you don’t have to deal with sending them out.
I guess if you don’t care about coating or cats, and you’re planing on making your own custom dual exhaust or something then the Hookers might be a good way for you to go. Otherwise, I like the SLPs better, IMO.
Oh, and I disagree about them performing the best of any mass produced header on the market for our cars. They haven’t been out long enough, and I’ve seen 5 tenth drops and 5 mph gains on a stock LS1 with SLP headers. That’s hard to beat.
BUT, it would be a boring world if we all had the same mods and same ideas

if you get them coated so what if they are stainless? that doesnt help anything. like you said IF you want that, ive personaly never had jet hot headers, its nice, but not by any means necessary... and you can get cats a lot cheaper than 275, you dotn NEED 3 inch on most cars, you can get 2 dynomax cats for less than half that much if you go with 2.5 inch. the only reason mine cost as much as it did was because of the Flowmaster Y collector. if i hadnt used that it would have been cheaper still. plus i have heard of fitment problems with the Y pipes that come with all the headers when using some subframe connectors, I have the SLPs which seem to be the worst, and there is plenty of clearance with the custom one.
even if it did cost 1100 bucks for everything, you still are gonna save 150 bucks over any of the other LT setups, 150 will take a nice bite out of a cam to take better advantage of the headers, or in my case, almost buy a MAFT... of course I saved 600 or so...
I still think the biggest advantage is the ability to spread the cost. I cant save money to save my life, i would have had headers long ago if i could, but i get money, and i spend it... the most you shell out at one time is 400 or so if you wnat to do it that way.. even with the coating

The SLP Y-pipe DOES NOT have fitment issues with SLP subframe connectors. This I can tell you from personal experience with more than one car. It only bangs (if installed WRONG) on the lip of the driveshaft tunnel. Nowhere else that I’ve seen on a few cars with this combo. If the installer knows what he’s doing and tightens everything up back to front this won’t be an issue. This is exactly how we’ve fixed that banging.
Why does it matter if they’re stainless steel if they are coated anyway? Coating wears off. Stainless steel doesn’t. I’m assuming that you’ve probably had enough sets of headers in the past to know how bad they get to looking in no time if they are uncoated/coating wore off and they’re not stainless steel. I know I have, and I don’t need a pair of rusted out headers ever again in my life.
No matter what headers I would by, I’d get RT cats. I’ve always used them in the past, and I see no reason to stop now. IMO, they are all-around the best.
I would also never use a set of uncoated headers again. I feel that the coating does a good job of keeping underhood temps down noticeably.
So yes, IMO, for the extra $150 or $200 or whatever and the luxury of not having to build a Y-pipe and getting it in SS with coating, it’s worth it to me. Different strokes I guess...

i dont know about SLP headers and SLP subframes, but I also know that SLP subframes arent the only ones out there.
from jet hots website: new parts also get lifetime rust-through coverage. if you get jet hot when they are new, looks like rust isnt a concern, and since you can barely see thses things anyway, looks arent all that important to me. ive always had ugly headers, and they work just as good as pretty ones.
You want RT cats. well you didnt say the minimum for RT cats is 275, you said the minimum for cats is 275. big difference. i have no clue which ones flow better (dyno max or RT), but i bet the difference isnt enough to make a huge power difference on these cars. ive never used RT cats, and i see no reason to start now. (see, that works both ways)
i personaly would rather have the TTSs or FLPs over the SLPs any day.
Also, i forgot to mention, id really like to see this totaly stock LS1 that picked up 5 tenths and 5 MPH with SLP headers, on the same day, with the weather not changing at all, and no other mods done between the before and after runs
Sorry I just dont buy it, what is that? 50 HP give or take?

My "quote" wasn't working so I copied it.
My simple reason for not getting prefabbed y. Get the Hooker headers however you want coated or not. Get a custom y made with your stock cats. (No price for cats) Get a custom y made for no cats.(Good for the track.) Around here getting both of these made wouldn't cost over $250. So you can't go to the first guy you come to. I had the entire exhaust system run on my pickup from the (Hooker) headers to the rear bumper and it was $340 for labor and 3" aluminized pipe. It is a true dual 3" over the axle exiting at the bumper. If I can get a complicated system like this done over the axles and past my custom fuel cell, and on a 5" drop, a couple of y-pipes isn't gonna cost crap.
So my way would get me coated headers, ($580) two y-pipes that fit perfect and don't bang ($200) plus gaskets. That's $800 max. Knock $200 off that for the coating and that's $600 for 2 y-pipes and long tube headers. That's half what those prescious SLP's are. Not knocking them, just their price and the price of the others. It's a price and is not reasonable. Hookers are reasonable and won't give 1 hp to any of the others. We've all see the posts about FLP, TTS, and SLP making only 4 hp gains. They are few and far between and it's relative to every car. Each car reacts different. You can't think others results will be the same as yours. My car may be worn out and the headers won't do crap. But mine might have 4000 miles on it and it's just getting broke in and get's +25 for the change.
I should have wrote this first....... "too many variables." There is no "magic" to any of these headers. Simple old school tells that the longer tubes and longer collectors will make more torque than the others. And won't give up hp either. None of our results would be the same from car to car with the same set of headers. It's not the header it's the car that's different. I have respect for all the long tube designs. But I'll give my money to the company who isn't trying to slip a long hard c*ck in my a$$ while he is stealing out of my wallet. And that will be Hooker getting my money not my cherry. I have a set of Hookers on two other vehicles. My LS1 will end the same.

NO long tube or mid length headers are any state legal once you put them on the car. they relocate the cats, federal law says you cant do that. but most places dont care like CA does. so you can usualy get by with it in the other 49 states.

So Freak, are you calling me a lair?
The member here that had those gains is RPM Z28. He is a good friend of mine. I was at the track for both runs. No, it wasn’t the same day and yes the weather was about 10 degrees cooler. No other mods were added or changed on the car. He went from 13.46 @105.10 to 12.90 at 110.72. His 60 foots were the same.
Hookers have never impressed me. I’ve had them before. They still don’t impress me. I also could care less “what you buy” I’m trying to give you hard facts about SLPs and the gains I’ve seen. If you don’t like it, that’s too bad for you. You’ve missed the point of this board. It’s about sharing info and facts. The fact is I haven’t seen any other LTs give a gain like the SLPs that I’ve seen.
Of the other choices (FLP, TTS) I like the SLP a whole lot better. It’s a better Y-pipe than FLPs and I like that it comes with RT cats. It’s also the least likely LT to bang and the fix (when it does) is very simple...

True enough so why is Hooker claiming their LT's are legal? Seems like to give a shred of credibility to their legal claim they'd at least offer a Y with cat's like all the other LT's makers offer. I mean the legal claim is just about on par with SLP's claims of 40+ horsepower, 50 torque, and 5/10th's for just their LT's...in other words misleading.
I want the Hooker's because they appear to be the best designed. I want to see more dyno testing...
Freak, when do you think you'll add a MAFT and redyno?

I mean the legal claim is just about on par with SLP's claims of 40+ horsepower, 50 torque, and 5/10th's for just their LT's...in other words misleading.
I want the Hooker's because they appear to be the best designed. I want to see more dyno testing...
Freak, when do you think you'll add a MAFT and redyno?
