Default LS1 bulid up

I am thinking of starting an LS1 build up, due to lack of funds an MTI 422 is to expensive to lump one big fat hunk of change down on at one time and in doing that I would end up in a divorce sooner that I would take delivery on the motor.

what i have thought of doing is purchasing an bare LS1 block and doing it a piece at a time. My question is with the LS1 block being aluminum what is the safest bore to take it out to? .30 .50? I would like to have it in the 383 or better range. Or is it better to purchace on of the 6.0 blocks and go from there? I have heard that if you want to build a serious Ls1 you need to start with the 6.0 block. I am still new to the LS1 so my knowlege is very limited as far a internal workings of the motor. Here is my list of ideas so far:
13.0:1 comp.
MTI rolling assy (N2O friendly)
cam in the 550 to 600 range in lift
Ls6 intake or even a hogans
Heads????????? Here is where I could use some help I dont know of anyone one that makes an aftermarket heads package, from what I know its all reworked factory heads.

I know this is a broad question but my biggest ? is what block to start with. Any info would be appreciated.

Is this going to be a street car? 13:1 is awful high for pump gas.

I don’t think there will be any rush in the near future to make aftermarket LS1 heads. Re-worked stock castings are working so well that the demand (for what it would cost) just isn’t there and probably won’t be for a long time. LS1 castings are probably the best small block heads ever designed from GM.

Yeah its going to be a street car and your right 13:1 is probably to high for pump gas, not only that I am going to be spraying on the motor so would 12:1 or even 11.5:1 be a better bet(thinking of a 200 shot)

With a big enough cam, 13:1 could be made to work. 11.5-12:1 would be a lot easier though. A lot depends on what you want your working rpm band to be.
