Default Gains from using LS6 computer codes, ported TB & MAF..

I found a shop in our area that I didn't know existed. The shop offered to port my throttle body, port the maf, perform the iat(?) resistor mod, and reconfigure my computer with ls6 computer settings. They were willing to do all of this for $160.
1)Does this seem like a good price
2)What gains can be expected from each mod
3)Specifically, what can be gained from reconfiguring the computer with LS6 settings?

LS6 settings? hmmmm...this isnt the Horsepower Store is it? they do have a higher rev limiter. you can port your own TB and MAF.

No definitely not them!!
It's Performance in Richardson. And as far as the LS6 settings, he was talking about the ECM. I don't really know what I can gain. Anything besides the rev limiteer. I do have the LS6 intake on my car, and he said that LS1's with that intake and the stock computer aren't realizing their gains.
How is the TB and MAF ported?

The following is not the whole story (im pretty tired): ok, i dont think you'll gain poop from that ecm stuff. ive been to Performace (real small place right...Taco Bell real close?), the guys were dicks to me. Now, you will see small gains (maybe larger depending on YOUR car...they're all different) from the Ported MAF and TB. A guy names Shaner posts TB's real well. and the MAF stuff is easy. take it apart, hack the divider, smooth it out. ill post pics/links tomorrow.

Thanks for the info. Shaner said he would do the ported TB for $75, and everyone I've talked to said he's reputable.
I will be looking for the MAf pics tommorow.
As far as the ECM, I don't know what I could gain either, if anyone out there knows, please chime in. He's talking about using LS6 codes in the ECM. I do have an LS6 intake.

FWIW: my .02

MORE Performance told me a while back that when switching from an LS1 intake to an LS6 intake the spark and fuel tables should be adjusted to get the max gains for the LS6 intake. They also said the LS6 intake was probably about 8rwhp for most stock LS1's when tables were tweaked and maybe 5rwhp without tweaking the tables. Since your car is a 2001 and came with the LS6 intake, I would think GM used the correct spark and fuel tables for the LS6 intake from the factory. I don't think an "LS6" computer calibration will get you much of anything at all except a higher rev limiter. I'd not raise the rev limiter with the stock springs myself.

Myself I'd wait until doing a cam at least before screwing the computer program.

I dyno tested the IAT mod on my car, and it was worthless. Probably less half of the cars gain anything from the IAT mod, if that.

You can get a ported TB from MTI, MMS, or LPE for as little as $80 or as much as $160. I have an LPE ported TB it was worth 3rwhp.

As to a ported MAF housing usually this causes the MAF to report less airflow than actually occurs leaning the car out. From what I've seen this is another hit or miss mod for most cars. Before I messed with the porting the MAF housing, get your car Atap'd and find out if it's rich or lean or what. If it's already lean porting the MAF could cause it to ping or KR.

I'd just get a MAFT go to the dyno and tune with it instead of messing with the MAF housing, but that's just me.

Good Luck.
