Re: Help Me Hit Low 12s, Need Mod Advice
A strut tower brace is a waste of money for drag racing, so scrap it. You're going to have to factor in some kind of sticky tire if you want to hit low 12's. A drag radial is a minimum. Also, instead of buying an SLP dual/dual new, find one used. There are always guys looking to sell them off of their SS's or Firehawks, and you can pick one up for 1/3 of the price when new. I bought mine used w/ 5,000 miles for $208 to my door. Just post up in the parts classifieds, and you'll most likely get some responses. If you're really wanting the cheap way out, you can install a cutout and leave the stock catback. I've ridden in quite a few cars with a cutout on the stock catback, and it's not too loud IMO. That would save you some money, and you'd see the same HP gain. Also, if you're wanting to do a gear swap, you could go with a set of 3.23's. They'll be better than your 2.73's, and you'd be able to have your PCM reprogrammed at the dealership. You could find a set of good, used 3.23's for cheap. For instance, I have mine for sale with 5,000 miles on them for $50. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> The converter will, by far, net the biggest gain. The Vig 3200 and ST3500 are excellent converters, and you'll see a solid .6 with either of them, if not more. I'm running the Vig 3200, and I'll eventually make it into the 11's with a stock engine w/ that converter. You should also look at all of the free mods if you haven't done them already. ported throttle body, ported MAF, free ram air, throttle body bypass, etc. The FTRA seems to help, but you might try out the free ram air first just to see how it does.
