Default Help Me Hit Low 12s, Need Mod Advice

This summer I'm going for the next round of mods. So far the only "for sure" mods I'm doing are going to be a Yank ST3500 (maybe a Vig3200) and a tranny cooler, some subframe connectors, lower control arms, and strut tower brace. I'll also be getting an SPL Dual/Dual catback to replace the stock one. I'm going to wait on the big things, but the little things like the suspension stuff I'm going to start doing right away. I'm hoping to drop my 13.26 to a 12.5-12.6 w/ the converter, suspension, and ET Streets. I was wanting to know what I could do the drop that time down even further, maybe down to a 12.0-12.2 range. I'm going to try and get a cheap laptop and Autotap for my computer, so that will cut into my budget. After all the stuff I'm buying for sure, I'll have a total of about $1000-2000, most likely around $1300-1500. I thought about headers, or maybe even nitrous (100 shot from NOS or 75 shot from TNT), but I'm not sure what I want to do. I'll most likely be getting the FTRA also, so that should give me a 1/10th or so I hope. So, any ideas are appreciated, I'm just wanting to hit low 12s and need all the help I can get.

I'd say get the Vig. 3200 and get rid of those 2.73s!
Get a set of MAC Headers and 3.73 gears.
Teamed with the Vig. 3200 you'll have an easy 12.0-12.3 car.

Also, that 13.26 was in about 50 degree weather, but my 60' was very traction limited. I spun on that run. Also, the lower the price the better. I was seriously thinking of just getting a stall, FTRA, and FLPs (if I can afford them) or MACs (if I can't get FLPs) and hoping for my times, is that possible. I mean I'm looking at dropping a full second off my E.T. Thanks for anymore advice.

If I got gears, I wouldn't go over 3.42s and I've SERIOUSLY thought about gears. I'd also have to get an HPP3 to correct for my gears so that's extra money. So lets say I get the FTRA, ST3500 (I'm just using that because they seem to sixty better), and 3.42s w/ HPP3 tuning, should I see a 12.0-12.3 or would I be a bit slower.

A strut tower brace is a waste of money for drag racing, so scrap it. You're going to have to factor in some kind of sticky tire if you want to hit low 12's. A drag radial is a minimum. Also, instead of buying an SLP dual/dual new, find one used. There are always guys looking to sell them off of their SS's or Firehawks, and you can pick one up for 1/3 of the price when new. I bought mine used w/ 5,000 miles for $208 to my door. Just post up in the parts classifieds, and you'll most likely get some responses. If you're really wanting the cheap way out, you can install a cutout and leave the stock catback. I've ridden in quite a few cars with a cutout on the stock catback, and it's not too loud IMO. That would save you some money, and you'd see the same HP gain. Also, if you're wanting to do a gear swap, you could go with a set of 3.23's. They'll be better than your 2.73's, and you'd be able to have your PCM reprogrammed at the dealership. You could find a set of good, used 3.23's for cheap. For instance, I have mine for sale with 5,000 miles on them for $50. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> The converter will, by far, net the biggest gain. The Vig 3200 and ST3500 are excellent converters, and you'll see a solid .6 with either of them, if not more. I'm running the Vig 3200, and I'll eventually make it into the 11's with a stock engine w/ that converter. You should also look at all of the free mods if you haven't done them already. ported throttle body, ported MAF, free ram air, throttle body bypass, etc. The FTRA seems to help, but you might try out the free ram air first just to see how it does.

With just headers and a lid I hit 12.60@110.12. I just recently installed a ST3500 and a set of DR's. This should net me 11's, but at least low 12's. Get headers, converter, gears, and set of DR's. The only reason I say gears is because you will find out that with 2.73, a stall is going to feel sloppy with everyday driving. But that is just personal preference. Try it out and it feels sloppy to you, then upgrade the gears.
