Who has a 400+rwhp H/C A4...
with the stock 4L60E and 10bolt?
how's everything holding up?
Is the car driven daily?
do you drive or trailer it to the track?
do you take it easy at the track? or go ***** out?
The reason I'm asking is because I might in the near future have money to do Heads/Cam, but I won't be able to afford having anything break.
thanks,
Steve

---------------------------
Yep, been there, done that. The 4l60E ad been slightly beefed up with better clutches..but that was it.
------------------------
how's everything holding up? The tranny is fine. The motor lasted a while until i had some PCM issues with the rev limiter. It stopped holding the motor under 6800 and soon there after I spun a bearing. Those 7400 revs on the stock bottom end were just too much for it. It didnt live long after the rev limiter stopped working.
-------------------------------
Is the car driven daily? Well it was. It still can be, but now I have a new truck.... so there is no need.
---------------------------------
do you drive or trailer it to the track?
I have only trailored it once... it was a rainy weekend at Super Chevy. And i didnt want to lay on the ground to change out the tires/exhaust.
---------------------------
do you take it easy at the track? or go ***** out?

...***** out. Everytime.

Bummer, then i would have to say, even though I dont want too. DONT DO IT. At those levels of power stuff breaks. That stock tranny with 400 ft pounds of torque will live a while. But I would be hedging any bets for the long term.
I have numerous buddies who have the MTI stage2 heads/cam set up that have had ZERO probs. The thing is they are ALL M6's. The A4's? They ALL have rebuilt trannies.
Good luck

I drive mine every day to and from work and on trips. About 1500-2000 miles a month. No problems so far. I do have the best of everything (except the rear end) and it's holding up well. I don't hammer it too much though...traffic is too congested most of the time when I'm commuting.

409rwhp here through the stock tranny and stock 10-bolt, both as they came from the factory minus the converter. Car was daily driven, not so much anymore though, 50 mile trip to work everyday, needed something a bit cheaper. Depending on how far away the track is depends on if it is trailered. I have a trailer for it as I know it is only time before something gives. I go all out at the track.
I'm still saving and trying to figure out what to go with, the 12-bolt was obvious, but I'm still hung-up on which direction to go with the tranny. Who knows, it could last forever, but I'm not counting on it.

I HAVE A 99 SS A4 WITH A LUNATI 382 STROKER,STAGE 2 HEADS,STOCK TRANNY WITH A VIGILANTE 3500,STOCK REAR END WITH 3.73'S AND A TNT NITROUS KIT.THE TRANNY HELD UP JUST FINE WITH THE 150 SHOT.WHEN I PUT THE 200 SHOT .....BOOM.....SO I ORDERED A PROYANK 4L60E...

I made over 400rwhp with an unlocked converter, still working on some shift point and launching problems to get my ET down.
Anyway I'm really sick of these "will my 10 bolt last" questions. Do a search; the topic has been covered about 50 times. If you plan on racing with the 10 bolt, plan on getting stuck at the track. It might happen the first time, maybe the 10th time, maybe the 1000th time, but it will happen.

Who asked that?
I'm more or less surveying to see who has gotten the most out of their factory drivetrain. I know there is a risk of breaking stuff, but I just wanted to see how much of a risk there is. If I could get another 50-100 passes out of my stock tranny, then why would I replace it with a built one so soon? Maybe I should clarify myself. My car is driven daily, but will only be driven around 6,000 miles this year and might see only 50-60 ***** out passes at the track. I know my tranny will break with heads/cam, but what are my odds of it lasting until next year? When it does break how do they usually break? Will I only lose say maybe 3-4 gears? where I could atleast drive around a little bit before getting a replacement. Or will the whole tranny give? The 10 bolt I'm not that concerned about.
Terry, I could really care less about you making 400 rwhp through an unlocked converter, unless you are running with the stock trans and then I would like to hear about how many miles/passes you have put on it without failure. Then I could atleast take your response along with every one elses into consideration to see if I would like to roll the dice myself or if the odds seem too great, just do a cam for now and wait to do heads until I have extra money for a trans.
Also, I especially don't want to hear your excuses as to why you are not putting down a good ET.

Stock tranny is the same as the stock rear end, it will last for awhile. It's completely random.
I've got about 5000 miles and 50 passes on my stock tranny / rear in the 11 second range. Hasn't done out yet, but it will. Why would you even consider replacing parts UNTIL they break? FYI the built "4L60E" trannys all break too.
