Will Gutted cats on a MAC ORY kill the drone?
Gutted cats won't do a thing. Bullet in the intermediate pipe will only help just a little bit. Best bet is to put bullets where the cats go. That is guaranteed to kill the drone...or put on a dual dual exhaust and you won't need any bullets...period!

I thought I've seen some guys who said the gutted cats killed it.Maybe not.Lot of guys say the bullet in the I-Pipe kills it FOR SURE.
Ragtop 99 has the bullets in the Y where the cats are supposed to be along with a SLP dual/dual and still has the drone. I've got the same as him, MAC's with ORY & SLP dual, dual & have got that horrible drone @ 2200-2700.I've got the dynomax bullet muffler ready to go in the I-pipe,some gutted cats ready to go in the Y if needed, but just want to make sure one of these will cure the drone before I start cutting things up

Gutted cats would be just like an ORY pipe. You remove anything that would have made it quieter. Don't know for sure about the bullet on the I pipe, but it seems to be the preferred option.

I don’t know what “drone” is, but if you’re talking about the off road pipe rasp, then yes, gutted cats will get rid of it. I was running race (off road) pipes on stock manifolds and a Flowmaster cat back and I had horrible rasp between about 2100 and 2400rpm. I put gutted cats in place of the race pipes and the rasp was gone. I’m not the only one either. Jake99SS is also using gutted cats on his LM catback and he has no rasp either. He's the one that I got the idea from.
If drone = rasp, then yes gutted cats will help. I know this from experience. I’m just not sure what “drone” is though

You would think that gutted cats wouldn't be any different than just a straight pipe, but when resonance & harmonics come into play it seems like just the different shape of the gutted cat in the pipe tends to absorb or change those harmonics. In some cases this cures the rasp/drone.
I would describe the difference between drone & rasp as; rasp is a sharp tinny noise, normally found on the louder catbacks, drone would be like a subwoofer sound found on the quieter catbacks.
The resonater in the I-pipe seems to have the best success rate in curing the drone according to my lengthly search.
Since I really don't want to run w/o cats for fear of getting caught (yes I have that kind of luck )I think I'm going to try putting some cats in the ORY.The only thing I can't decide is do I buy some good cats like Random tech & just leave them in,or buy any cats then gut em.If the gutted cats solve the drone problem & make it LOOK legal that solves 2 problems. What would you guys do?How much HP would I be losing by leaving a set of Carsounds or R/T's in there
