I've got a set of ported/milled 5.3 heads though (yeah, Patrick I just noticed they are 862 castings instead of 853...would make sense with the pushrod dilemma then)
Stopped tuning at 6400RPM for some reason. It'll be getting retuned after the ported Fast 90 to hopefully breathe a tad bit better up top, more comparable to Pat's setup.

You could always just build a stroker, More cubes = More torque
or you can just spray it, or all three.

I'm not saying you won't need heads, but I bet if you bought even a stock set of LS6's (Patriot has them for $350 right now) did not mill them but ran a .040 gasket and swapped your cam you would be way ahead of the game.

Is it a timing issue? I'm leaning pretty heavily towards thinking it is...but, don't have a straight forward answer as of yet.
This shows difference between open exhaust and closed exhaust. You know that old wives tale "You'll loose TQ running open headers" BS. You'll notice there is no flattening out between 3600 and 4200.
Mods at this time were:
FTRA
Lid
Fliter
Ported TB
Maf ends
LS6 intake (stock)
TR236 cam
Stock 241 castings
Pace Setter headers
Custom y-pipe with dual electric cut outs right after the headers with 18" extensions as not to mess with the O2 sensors.

Now, here is a graph showing over lays with stock internals, Cam and Cam/100 shot. (You can ignore the N20 pull.) But all of these pulls show with the cut outs open.

I will be proving it yet again once I get my truck running.
