Default Will dropping the cats hinder performance?

If I don't have the O2 bungs will the PCM screw with the power of the car in a NEGATIVE way?

What are the draw-backs, if any, other than throwing a check engine light?

This will be done on the Firehawk. I wanna test the noise-level before I drop the headers

Thanks!

I don't believe it will mess with anything since it'll give bad readings to only the rear O2's. That's just emission crap. The front O2's are the important ones, so I think you'll just have an SES to stare at. I would expect the performance to be fine.

Thanks!

Someone told me that it might smell a little funny. Is this true? If so, will this smell be from the exhaust only or will it be evident in the interior?

Without cats, you'll definitely have a strong exhaust smell. The only time you will likely smell it is if your windows are down and you've been sitting at a light for a while. FWIW, I pulled the cats off of my car with 1,250 miles on it. With an aftermarket cam, the smell will get REALLY bad with no cats. The 232/237 that I had in my 383 T/A could kill a small village if you let it idle in the garage.
