Default ASP pulley and TR6's = Knock Retard

Just had my pulley and TR6's installed and before I would rarely get any KR. Now after the pulley and plugs I am getting .5 - 3.5 KR around 30-35 mph under WOT and even light throtle. Looking at the pulley while idleing it seems to be "wobbling" a bit. This is really worrying me because I know it's seated properly. Could the pulley be causing false KR due to the pulley being a little out of ballence? On the plug side of the issue I would think TR6's being a colder plug wouldn't add any retard, am I wrong there?

Thanks for reading all this, mrTNT

Yes, a pulley that is not seated properly will cause KR. Who installed the pulley?? If a shop installed it, take it back ASAP. If you installed it, pull it off and reinstall. It should be tq'd to 250 ft lbs. If it is reinstalled and still wobbles, you may have a bad pulley. I have heard of ASP swapping out new ones for out-of-round pulley's. An wobbling pulley can cause knock and damaged bearings in the bottom end.

FYI, none of those #'s really mean anything until you're under WOT. You may see some knock under light throttle, but not see any under WOT, which is where it counts.

Thank you for the fast reply, I know the torque wrench only went to 150 ft lbs and was cranked pretty good after that. What can you use to accuratly measure 240 or 250 ft lbs when you only have a 150 ft lb wrench.

Thanks, mrTNT

Get yourself a 250 ft lb wrench <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

Josh is correct. An improperly installed crank pulley can cause problems. I would pull the pulley off and reinstall it. You need to get a new bolt, a tq. wrench that goes to 250ft/lb, and a torque angle meter.

With the old bolt, seat the pulley by tightening it to 240lb/ft. Remove old bolt and install new bolt. Tighten to 37lb/ft, then another 120 degrees.

FIRST MAKE SURE THE PULLEY IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY........BUT:

I had an ASP pulley separate...the inner hub came apart from outer ring. ASP replaced and I am sure it is rare but check to see if the rubber that connects the two have not separated. ASP said to test take off the belts and try turn or shake the outer rim. If there is any movement the pulley is deffective.

JUST A HEADS UP..ASP WILL TAKE CARE OF IT.
