It all depends on who ported the heads. Some of those ported 5.3's have 229cc runners

The 233/239 V2 w/113 idled so nice it would go well with your A4. That was my 4th cam and it was perfect. I would try to get 59cc heads though to make up the bottom end tq. Mine worked like a charm and I had Patriot STG2 LS6's w/2.08 59cc and it had NICE bottom end with that cam! TSP.

"I would try to get 59cc heads though to make up the bottom end tq"

but with a 4000 converter shouldnt his only concern be midrange and upper end hp/tq?

Stay with the small cam. Just because you're doing heads doesn't mean you HAVE to get a bigger cam. The power difference isn't that much. You'll see.

Proper compression tames the cam a bit. Should make his auto that much smoother and more responsive. Heck, increased compression is good across the board.

Their old designe was 229cc. They are great heads for the money. I outpulled an FM13 w/tea 5.3's with those heads(old style) and a TR224 cam.

When you say outpulled, you mean on the dyno right?

I will also be doing the prc's after the holidays and i will be leaving my b-1 in.
The stock drivability and i'am hoping for 410 plus rwhp should be quite fun on the street.
Hell i have a blast now with 390 and also shifting @6200-6300

I think with either camshaft you might think about going to the 5.3l stage 2.5 heads. For nearly the same money the 5.3l heads have smaller runners, smaller chambers & a larger stainless valve! With either camshaft I think the 5.3l head would probably more fun for daily driving....

Thanks everyone! I have decided to do the smart thing for now, and will keep the 221 cam. I purchased the 5.3 heads with 2.02 intake valve. But I will have enough clearance to drop in the 233 if I am not happy with my cam.
