Default What could have caused this (serious prob)

Ok, I have an egr hole blockoff plate from Speed and Performance. Basically a cover plate with a plug for the egr hole on the intake manifold. Tonight, I was reversing up an incline with the wheel turned almost all the way and I hear a loud back, and the car dies. Open the hood to find the coverplate blown off the intake manifold and the egr hole wide open. Put the cover back on....problem solved. What would cause that much pressure in the intake manifold to cause this to blow off? Keep in mind this is a pretty tight seal and the plate is made of solid aluminum so it isnt exactly a light peice to just blow off.
