Default engine spec questions

i was just wondering what the compression is for a stock LS1? also, my car is consuming about a half a quart of oil every 6 weeks. is this normal or should i do a leak down test to check the rings and valve seals. the car is a 99 with under 30k on it. <img src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" />

10.1:1 compression.

Many people have oil consumption issues, some more than others. I wouldn't take the time to test yours. How many miles do you average in 6 weeks?

i clock around 1200 miles every 6 weeks. would the oil consumption be caused by the oil type? i've been running amsoil 10w30 for the last year but i just noticed the oil thing in november. thanks for the help.

Doubt the type of oil is to blame. Most likely due to the crappy PCV system on our cars. Mine burns a little bit. Not quite as much as yours does though I have 55k miles on the clock. Do a search for PCV fixes on here....there's some ways to fix the problem. You're in Merrit Island....I'm in Orlando....our local f-body club is the CFFB check us out. www.cffb.net

LS1's are notorious for consuming oil. I don't remember what GM said about it, but I thought it was a ring problem and they were fixing it on a case-by-case basis. If your car is still under warranty, you may be able to haggle your dealer into fixing it...if you trust your dealer!
