engine spec questions i was just wondering what the compression is for a stock LS1? also, my car is consuming about a half a quart of oil every 6 weeks. is this normal or should i do a leak down test to check the rings and valve seals. the car is a 99 with under 30k on it. <img src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" />

Many people have oil consumption issues, some more than others. I wouldn't take the time to test yours. How many miles do you average in 6 weeks?

Re: engine spec questions i clock around 1200 miles every 6 weeks. would the oil consumption be caused by the oil type? i've been running amsoil 10w30 for the last year but i just noticed the oil thing in november. thanks for the help.

Re: engine spec questions Doubt the type of oil is to blame. Most likely due to the crappy PCV system on our cars. Mine burns a little bit. Not quite as much as yours does though I have 55k miles on the clock. Do a search for PCV fixes on here....there's some ways to fix the problem. You're in Merrit Island....I'm in Orlando....our local f-body club is the CFFB check us out. www.cffb.net

Re: engine spec questions LS1's are notorious for consuming oil. I don't remember what GM said about it, but I thought it was a ring problem and they were fixing it on a case-by-case basis. If your car is still under warranty, you may be able to haggle your dealer into fixing it...if you trust your dealer!
