I haven't changed mine and I'm dreading doing it, but I'm almost positive you have to drop the oil pan. It's a real PITA to do. Good luck with it, let us know how it goes. Maybe some of the guys on here who have done one can give you some specifics.

When in doubt, check out jmX's website:

http://ls1.fbody.com

He has really nice writeups on a lot of modifications, including an oil pump swap.

LOL, I still don't know how you manage to take good pictures in the middle of an install. I have done a few minor installs (in comparison to heads & cam) and usually, I'm cussing with transmission fluid dripping in my face, or running to the nearest Autozone for parts / tools.

Only later do I think I should have taken some pictures to do a writeup.

I have seen several sites with some good writeups, but yours is the best I have seen.

Keep up the good work. I have the Helms manual, and I would take one of your writeups any day over the Helms manual...

The best shortcut would have been to install it at the same time you did the Hammer cam <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">
