Do we have any ELECTRICAL experts among us?
I was fixing a broken needle in my buddy's 99 T/A cluster, and decided to see how his cluster would look in my car, since my cluster was out as well. When I plugged in the T/A cluster, the only thing that lit up was the left turn signal marker, and immediately I heard a slight sizzling sound and then POP. When I looked under the hood, I couldn't see any visual damage, but some white smoke was in the air and it smelled like burnt plastic. I hunted the smell, and it's coming from the RIGHT side of the engine bay.
Then, I go to pop the Camaro cluster back in the car. When I turn the key to the on position, I still get the sizzling sound like something is about to pop again. I do not want to leave the key in there long enough to get out and look.
Any ideas? Electrical problems are a PITA to hunt down and fix.

Sounds like your plugging your buddies gauges into your car. They are not wires the same!!!
If it is right side,as in pass side.BYE,BYE computer. The gauges get there signal directly from the computer,so if the gauges are wired wrong and shorted it can cook parts in the computer IE:sizzling.
Does the car still run?
I'll say this"don't plug it in again"

Well I don't plan on trying to put them back in again LOL. I really didn't think that the wiring would be different, and especially not something that would cause a big electrical problem.
Does the car still run? I dunno, turning the key to the on position and hearing the sizzling sound is an indication that I should turn the key back OFF. At first I thought it was the computer, but the smells seems to be coming from the front of the car.

I think the computer is fried. Lucky for me I have a 98 which is the most expensive and hardest to find. Lucky me.....

Hehe, mine too. Electronics need their smoke to work.

Kris, thanks. I talked to Sean, he has one 98 PCM. Even with a 1/2 off *** raping coupon the price is still 250 bucks
