Default Can you tell by looking inside a block if it has many miles??? Look at these pic's

I found a motor and trans, 2002 trans am crashed. The guy says it has 7000
miles only!! I am going to buy this. but by looking at the exhaust, they should still look new for 7000 miles no??.. Should I pull the heads and look at the cylinder walls?? How do you tell?? Only internal check right??

It's tough just to look at and determing the mileage. That block looks pretty clean, cleaner than mine with 56k miles on it. The exhaust does look like it has more than 7k miles on it though.

If you live in a state that has emissions, I would take down the vin (if possible) and carfax it. It will show you the last reported mileage on the vehicle.

Cheers,

Mike

exhaust is the first thing to rust considering it is cast. so if it sat around it would rust pretty quick. check out your rotors if you don't drive your car for about 2 weeks.....

Yea, I guess you could have a good point!!

Its just that this is going to cost me a pretty penny,
and I don't want to get jipped by a low milage ad and it
be a high milage motor

don't use the rusty manifolds and y-pipe as an indicator of mileage.

that tells you nothing....can you find out what car it came out of...a VIN anything? hopefully you can find out a bit more of the history...
