Default Questions for big cube motor owners

MTI is building me a 422 CID motor. Need your input with regard to the following:

-What Injector size & brand did you go with ? Iam looking for injectors that would be sufficient for NA & probably a TNT 100 shot next year. Would Ford SVO 30lb injectors be enough ?

-Would the stock oil pump in 2001 (LS6 ?) cars be sufficient or do I have to get a further modified unit ? Also what about the fuel pump ?

-Do I have to get a bigger radiator or would the stock one work fine ? Are there any radiator/coolant hoses that need to be upgraded ? I already have a lower temp thermostat & the PCM is going to be programmed for early fan turn on. I don't do road racing, just occasional street racing.

I really want to make sure that I have everything ready when I get the motor

Thank you in advance

Hey xxxhp,

I had a ton of these questions also when MTI was building my setup. My general advice is to trust them, they do know what they are doing. But they will give you what you want also (within reason).

In my case, we definitely needed bigger injectors. The stock 26-lbers dropped a large amount of power above 5500 RPM on my setup. See https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...1&t=000468&p=2 on this board for more info where I list what happened. Swapping out to bigger injectors definitely fixed that problem.

Stock radiator is fine. Not a problem at all. And on the computer stuff, Jayson is very good with LS1 edit, so they will adjust around or remove anything on your setup that is not needed.

The stock fuel pump was fine for my setup, but I am not planning on spraying so I did not really look into this.

Do not know about the oil pump - but they are building these motors for reliability, and thus do not want to be in a situation where they are having to replace motors under warranty. In other words, I am sure that they are all over the oiling issue.

Hope this helps.

I have Lucas 42.5 lb injectors. If you plan on spraying a dry kit I highly recommend these. If not, then Ford 30s would be fine.

I believe MTI installs a high output oil pump in all of their superstrokers (pretty sure.) Tony, is that right?

The stock fuel pump will be borderline. Mine wasn't enough but the '01 may have a slightly better pump than my '00. Just for safety I would upgrade fuel pumps. MTI will take care of this if it's necessary in your case. You might also have them install a pillar mounted FP gauge (ESPECIALLY if you're planning on spraying!) I have one and wouldn't be without it. BTW, for spraying a dry shot you will likely find that fuel rail replacement or modification will be necessary (hint: the FP dampner in between the rails is highly restrictive.) Also, keep an eye on the MAF flow rate. It maxes at 58.1 lb per hour. Really, for a superstroker it might be simplest to do a wet kit with an independent fuel system.

The stock cooling system is more than fine. I've had no cooling capacity problems.

That's odd. Jayson told me that the engine is going to come with a modified fuel pump . A modified oil pump makes more sense though. I wonder if Jayson made a typo or something.
Tony are you there ? it is still too early for you to get busy with your new project

Yeah, I think he meant modified oilpump. If anything is done to the fuel pump it'll be that it was replaced completely or it became aided by an inline helper pump.
