What the hell just happened???? <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">
When I started my car yesterday morning, I noticed, a loud ticking sound, from below my car... I could hear coming out of my cutout all day, just thought it was a gas leak, no big deal..... It drove fine all day, no codes, no nothing, just a little funnier sounding tick at idle, all the way up. Well, last night I realized that i was losing Serious horsepower above ~5000 rpm, and the ticking was in the engine compartment. I took it up to redline on the way home, and thats when it happened. It backfired alot more than usual, then threw the code. I got off the highway, and the IDLE WAS TERRIBLE!!! It wasnt like a small tciking now, it was a large miss..... The car sounds like crap, code on, now idling like a cammed car.... The tic is now like a big miss, it sounds and feels (shaking) like im not running on all cylinders.... I dont know what the hell is going on.... We figured it was the main EGR tube, that connects to the TB (it was finger-loose) because you could move it around quite a bit, but thats not it.... We tightened it down, checked the plugs and wires, all that, disconnected battery, same thing happens....
Does anyone know what this could be because Im clueless, and vary vary scared.... I dont have ATAP, so im in you guys's hands.... Hopefully someone can help me.
Thanks guys, <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">

I had similar symptoms when I had a bad lifter. I replaced them all and now it's fine. I wonder if one of your lifters is stuck open? But mine did the same thing...drove fine for awhile but just made ticking sounds (sometimes didn't even do that) but then sometimes it would run like total crap just like you mentioned. Don't know if it threw a code or not cause i have a permanent SES light due to my cam. Good luck.

UPDATE:
We fixed the ticking noise from under the hood.... We think it had something to do with the EGR tube running to the TB being loose, and the car been slightly low on oil..... BUT, there is still a slight miss/ticking sound coming from the exhaust cutout, and it is still idling a little less than perfect.... There is a very very slight bit of smoke coming from the exhaust, and the SES L is still on....
Any thoughts???
We are now going to jack up car and check the 02 sims and sensors, as well as plug #8....
Lemme know what you think! Thanks again fellas.

bump....
How much would it cost to replace a valve, or pushrod?
What about having a compression test run on the engine??
How much for that?
Thanks!

do a compression check its easy and you can even borrow the tool from autozone. but i still say its an internal prob, (not be a party pooper) but its sounds like you are getting a p0300 code, get your hands on autotap. good luck

Grinch:
Do you think it is possible that Im throwing a p0300 code, even without nitrous? All I basically have done is headers, and airlid engine whise, would this matter? (oh, and a hypertech)
Thanks again, I will run a compression test, wish me luck.
