ported head flow
considering the LS6 intake flows less than a ported head, what is the advantage to say a 300 CFM port compared to a 280 or so?

don't know if its possible but say you had some porting genious that made the heads like 280 from .250 lift all the way to .600 lift.
that way there was no low/mid lift gains over say the 300 cfm

The lower peak cfm head will more often than not outflow the peak cfm head in the low-mid lift range. The "better" head is the head that delivers the best numbers over the entire useable lift range, not the one with the best peak numbers. But as Tony was trying to get at, often WELL ported heads, with good peak cfm, will have better mid-lift flow as well.
Personally I think heads will flow different when the intake manifold is bolted on. In other words, a head that flows very well on a flowbench (higher peak #'s) may or may not flow as well as another head that has lower peak numbers on the engine. That's why dyno/track times are the only thing that should matter. But, without any other information, go with what the Flow Bench tells ya.

In general ANY intake will knock down ANY heads but the better heads will still flow more and also make more power. You'd like to have a better and more well matched intake to add to this obviously but the better head will usually still show power even with a restrictive manifold. Realize I'm not necesarily saying "bigger" but rather better flowing.

I agree with racer7088. Do not get so hung up on flow numbers. The WAY the air flow occurs Is also crucial, IE how the air is moved and channeled through the head and the swirl and motion that it produces.
