Header coating
First post here, I've been looking for a few weeks, and I love it Now that the car is out of warranty in 3 weeks, I may just put the MACs on with no cats, and get some SIMs. My question is this...What is the main purpose for coating the headers? I thought it was for efficency, but what the hell do I know? Anyway, a place around here does SS based coating and would charge like $175-$250 to do them and the ORP, but if it's just for longevity, couldn't I just coat them like POR-15 myself and $ave ca$h for more mods? Or, do they tend to corrode from the inside out as well? Also, how far back do you cut of the collector to do the FM collector? I've had these headers in the boxes for over year and a half, and want to put them on finally. Sorry it's so long Thanks guys!!
The main benefits of ceramic coating are: reduced radiant heat, increased exhaust gas velocity, prevents discoloration due to heat, reduces thermal fatique. Be aware that all thermal coatings are not the same and if not applied correctly are a waste of time.
