Default Clutch no engaging = could equal grinding gears??

Weird quesiton, but sometimes my 4th gear lately grinds like a ****, i think that my 3-4 gear sycnrhonizer is f*cked, it keeps popping out of 3rd and is even worse now with grinding 4th. The weird thing is that it doesn't grind 4th all the time, sometimes it wont' go in at all etc and sometimes its absolutel fine and smooth. I was wondering if this could possible be a clutch problem, like if the clutch isn't opening up or catching/engaging all the way when i try and put it into THAT gear (only) it grinds, is this possible?

Thanks.

The clutch has no idea what gear the tranny is in...if you are only having problems with 1 or 2 gears its gonna be a tranny issue only most likely, although an improperly DISengaging clutch could have prematurely worn down all the synchros.

The popping out of 3rd thing is a common issue, if you are still under warranty sometimes dealers will fix it.

Shouldn't this be moved to the drivetrain section???
