Default Is it Safe?..

I have heard that it is a waste of money to buy a MAF sensor which run about $150 if not more...Anyway is it safe to take out the screen in the stock air flow sensor?..I heard that this screen just restricks and straightens the airflow over the sensor...Is that also true?..Any advise would be greatly appreciated...

Yes it is safe to take the air flow straightner out for increased air flow, also if you can find someone to do some good porting you may want to opt for that. On my 00 it has been removed for over a year now and hasnt given any problems.

Here is a very good read about doing the porting.
